Founded in 2013 by Dr. Michael Shin, the entire team at EyeWorld Optometry are proud to offer personalized eye care for families living in the Thornhill and surrounding areas.  EyeWorld Optometry’s goal is to provide complete eye care solutions that are customized to your lifestyle. MEET THE OPTOMETRIST

Dr. Michael Shin is an Optometrist in Thornhill providing complete eye care services for the surrounding communities.

Dr. Shin received bachelor of science degree in 1996 at University of Waterloo and obtained his doctor of optometry degree in 2000 at New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Shin was the primary optometrist at Scarborough Eye Associates for the past decades.  He has been working together with renowned surgeons including Dr. Jordan Cheskes, Dr. David Assad from Scarborough Eye Associates and Dr. Raymond Stein from Bochner Eye Institute.    

Dr. Shin has started his own practice in 2013.  As a licensed optometrist, Dr. Shin provides exams, diagnoses, and treatments of all disorders that affect the eye or vision. 

He has a special interest in treatment options for Myopia.  He believes the Myopia is a pandemic disease in the modern digital age.  High myopia is a leading factor for many types of eye disease, i.e. Retinal detachment, macular degeneration and glaucoma.  

Dr. Shin works hard to stay current on the latest advances in eye health and vision care and regularly attends continuing education seminars and advanced training courses. It is because of Dr. Shin's dedication to continuing education that our Thornhill patients receive the most modern and progressive vision care available.

 

i.Scription® technology

Using the Zeiss iProfiler Plus, we are able to generate more accurate prescriptions for your corrective lenses. The iProfiler takes topographical map of your eye for precise and fingerprint-like prescription to achieve optimal eye glasses lens, RGP contact lens and Orthokeratology(Ortho-K) lenses.

 

Autoflourescent OCT     (Optical Coherence Tomography)

is an advanced imaging technology that provides highly detailed cross-sectional images of the retina, helping to detect and manage retinal conditions with precision. By utilizing autofluorescence, it highlights cellular changes in the retinal pigment epithelium, allowing the optometrist at EyeWorld Optometry to diagnose early signs of diseases like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy before symptoms become apparent. This non-invasive technology enhances our ability to monitor retinal health over time, ensuring accurate assessments and personalized treatment strategies for optimal visual outcomes

 

Humphrey Perimeter

is state-of-the-art tool for visual field testing, essential for detecting and managing glaucoma and other vision disorders. With its detailed analysis of both central and peripheral vision, the Humphrey Perimeter helps the optometrist at EyeWorld Optometry monitor changes over time, supporting personalized care and treatment plans. This innovative technology ensures that our patients receive comprehensive assessments and that we can make informed, proactive decisions to protect and improve their visual health.

iCare tonometer

The new iCare tonometer was developed by a doctor in Finland as an easy and patient-friendly method of measuring eye pressure. It uses unique “rebound” technology, in which a very light-weight tip is used to make momentary contact with the cornea. Anesthesia is not needed since the touch of the tip is so gentle and the measurement so quick that it is barely noticed by the patient. And there’s no loud startling noise to make you jump, either!
