Adult & Senior Eye Exam
Comprehensive eye exams are important to maintain eye health and good vision.
An eye exam looks at the entire eye health and visual system, as well as your prescription. It is an important part of preventative health care: think of an eye exam as a physical for your eyes. Eye exams can detect eye diseases and disorders such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment, and macular degeneration. It can also detect other health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and brain tumors.
Adults aged 65 or older are at a higher risk for the following common eye conditions and diseases that can threaten sight: Presbyopia, Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.
Each of these issues can be promptly diagnosed and treated by an optometrist before permanent effects take place.
Annual eye exams for seniors are covered by OHIP starting at age 65. OHIP will cover a major eye exam once every 12 months.
Children Eye Exam
It’s common for children to think that their vision is normal, and therefore they often won’t report their symptoms to their parents or teachers. That’s why it’s important to know what signs to look for and to have your child’s eyes checked regularly by an optometrist.
Only a comprehensive eye exam conducted by an optometrist can detect eye health and vision issues before it’s too late, because some conditions won’t show any obvious signs or symptoms. Early detection allows for an optometrist to successfully treat common conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (misaligned eyes), which are best managed while a child is still young.
Make sure that your child has the best possible chance for success, by adding a comprehensive eye exam to your family to-do list.
In Ontario, eye exams are covered by OHIP for children up to 19 years-old. OHIP will cover a major eye exam once every 12 months.
Myopia Control & Treatment
Protect your child’s vision with our comprehensive myopia control program! Left unmanaged, myopia can progress over time, increasing the risk of more serious eye issues later in life. At EyeWorld Optometry, we offer scientifically proven, FDA-approved strategies to slow myopia progression effectively and safely. Explore our range of treatment options below:
Atropine Eye Drops
Low-dose atropine eye drops are a popular myopia control strategy, shown to slow eye elongation by approximately 50%. Specially formulated by your pharmacist to the specific percentage your optometrist recommends, this treatment is safe and effective. While some children experience mild light sensitivity or blurred near vision, pairing these eye drops with specialty lenses or photochromic tints can help minimize these side effects.
Custom Orthokeratology Lenses
EyeWorld’s unique custom orthokeratology lenses are designed to be worn overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea, providing clear vision throughout the day without glasses or contacts. This treatment also helps slow myopia progression by altering how light focuses on the retina, signaling the eye to slow down elongation.
MiSight® 1 Day Contact Lenses
MiSight 1 Day contact lenses incorporate ActivControl® Technology, creating zones of myopic defocus that change how light reaches the retina, helping to slow myopia progression. Studies show that MiSight lenses reduce myopia progression by an average of 59%.
HOYA MiyoSmart & Essilor Stellest Lenses
These innovative glasses incorporate cutting-edge technology to create peripheral defocus, slowing myopia development. MiyoSmart lenses use patented D.I.M.S. (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) technology and can reduce myopia progression by up to 62%. These lenses fit like regular glasses, requiring only a brief adaptation period.
Dry Eye Treatment
Dry Eye Treatment
If dry eye is left untreated, it can be harmful. Excessive dry eye can damage tissue and possibly scar the sensitive corneal tissues of your eye, impairing vision. Dry eye can make contact lens wear more difficult due to increased irritation and greater chance of eye infection.
Today there are a variety of effective treatments for dry eye. The continuous improvement of available technology as well as a greater understanding of dry eye and its causes has resulted in many different types of effective treatment.
If you have increased dryness or redness that is not relieved by the prescribed treatment, Visit us for help with your dry eye symptoms. We will work with you to determine the cause and find the best way to treat and manage its symptoms.
Diabetic Exam
Diabetic Exam
Diabetes can seriously affect your eyes, causing temporary or permanent vision loss. That is why annual eye exams are critical for people living with diabetes, and OHIP will cover a major eye exam once every 12 months.
An eye exam can detect the presence of diabetes, as well diabetes-related eye problems such as:
Diabetic retinopathy
Glaucoma
Cataracts
Decreased corneal sensitivity
Vision problems. For example:
- Fluctuating or blurring of vision
- Occasional double vision
- Loss of visual field
Laser Eye Surgery Consultation
Laser Eye Surgery Consultation
Laser refractive surgery (LASIK, etc.) is a safe and effective way to correct refractive errors of the eye. There are several surgical options available when considering refractive eye surgery to reduce your dependence on glasses or contact lenses. We can offer an informed opinion regarding your candidacy for any of the refractive surgery options available. Following refractive surgery, we can help manage the use of antibiotics, steroids and artificial teardrops required to help the healing process:
- Photo-Refractive Keratectomy (PRK)
- Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)
- Intralase SBK
- Clear Lens Extraction (CLE)
- Implantable Contact Lens Surgery (ICL)
Vision Therapy
Vision Therapy
Problem of lazy eye is that one eye is less developed than the other so the brain has hard time using images of the both eyes. Consequently, good vision cannot be developed. A child’s vision develops in the first few years of life, so it is important to start with vision therapy as soon as the problem is diagnosed. We provide vision therapy training which provide stimuli to the lazy eye as well as train the brain how to use both eyes together. We achieve this through interactive games and exercises that help rebuild neurological links between the eyes and the brain!
Eye Disease Diagnosis & Management
Eye Disease Diagnosis & Management
In the earliest stages, many eye diseases are symptom free but can be detected during routine eye health examinations. For example, Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in North America in adults over the age of 55. The most common initial symptom is slightly blurred central vision when performing tasks that require seeing detail. Glasses cannot correct this blurred spot or sense that there is an obstruction in the way of clear vision. Over time, the blurred area may increase in size and interfere with reading and recognizing faces. Other symptoms of AMD can cause straight lines to look wavy or distorted, and dark spots may blank out portions of the central vision. Patients experience no pain with AMD and there are no signs that can be seen by a casual observer.
Early detection and prompt intervention are crucial to addressing wet AMD. Regular eye examinations and counselling from your optometrist will let you know what treatments or preventions are best for you and when new treatments become available.
Examples of Eye Diseases & Conditions :

- Conjunctivitis

iCare tonometer
iCare tonometer
The new iCare tonometer was developed by a doctor in Finland as an easy and patient-friendly method of measuring eye pressure. It uses unique “rebound” technology, in which a very light-weight tip is used to make momentary contact with the cornea. Anesthesia is not needed since the touch of the tip is so gentle and the measurement so quick that it is barely noticed by the patient. And there’s no loud startling noise to make you jump, either!
